As we continue our comprehensive coverage of the 2020 MLB Draft, today we’re releasing a complete look at Round 2 of next month’s draft, as seen by our staff.
This version includes all standard picks, competitive balance ‘B’ picks, and compensation picks.
As we gear up for the draft on June 10, The Dugout will be a one-stop shop for local draft-pick profiles, as well as our expansive coverage on all five rounds of the draft.
Now for the fun stuff! Here’s Round 2 of The Chicago Dugout’s Official MLB Mock Draft.

38. Detroit Tigers
Alika Williams (SS) – Arizona State
The Tigers have three talented arms, a catcher and an infielder in their top-five prospects, and added Torkelson as Miggy’s err apparent in round one. Detroit continues to mold their future around the diamond by adding Torkelson’s ASU teammate, Alika Williams.
Previous Selections: (1) Spencer Torkelson (1B) – Arizona State

39. Baltimore Orioles
Jordan Westburg (SS) – Mississippi State
The Orioles add a shortstop with plus speed, raw power and a ton of athleticism in Jordan Westburg with their third pick in the first two rounds.
Previous Selections: (2) Austin Martin (OF) – Vanderbilt, (30) J.T. Ginn (RHP) – Mississippi State

40. Miami Marlins
Drew Romo (C) – The Woodlands H.S. (TX)
After taking arguably the top pitcher in the draft at No. 3, Miami adds to a catching deprived system with prep prospect, Drew Romo in Round 2. Romo is a switch-hitting catcher who has raw power tools from both sides, and elite catch-and-throw behind the dish according to Baseball America, which ranked him No. 38 on their Top-500 list.
Previous Selections: (3) Asa Lacy (LHP) – Texas A&M

41. Kansas City Royals
CJ Van Eyk (RHP) – Florida State
The Royals continue to add to a loaded farm with another college arm, this time it’s righty CJ Van Eyk from Florida State. Van Eyk has a mid-90s fastball with a solid curveball and changeup to compliment it.
Previous Selections: (4) Reid Detmers (LHP) – Louisville, (32) Jordan Walker (3B) Decatur H.S. (GA)

42. Toronto Blue Jays
Masyn Winn (SS/RHP) – Kingwood H.S. (TX)
The Blue Jays keep the focus on pitching here (sort of), adding two-way prep prospect, Masyn Winn. The Arkansas commit is hailed as a legit two-way prospect by Baseball America. Winn has plus bat speed, raw power and plus speed offensively, and an electric fastball that gets up to 98 mph on the mound.
Previous Selections: (5) Max Meyer (RHP) – Minnesota

43. Seattle Mariners
Bryce Jarvis (RHP) – Duke
Seattle has a glut of top-prospects that are position players, but couldn’t pass on Nick Gonzales at No. 6 in Round 1. They turn their focus to pitching here with Duke right-hander, Bryce Jarvis. Jarvis upped his fastball from a low-90s to mid-90s offering, and paired it with an impressive set of offsepeed offerings to become a strikeout machine during his sophomore season (11.2 K/9).
Previous Selections: (6) Nick Gonzales (2B) New Mexico State

44. Pittsburgh Pirates
Justin Foscue (2B/3B) – Mississippi State
After taking a pair of college arms in the opening round, the Pirates get good value with their selection of Justin Foscue here in Round 2. Foscue hit 14 home runs and slashed .338/.402/.582 during his 2019 sophomore campaign, good for fifth in the SEC. Defensive concerns at 2B might push Foscue to a corner, but he can rake.
Previous Selections: (7) Emerson Hancock (RHP) – Georgia, (31) Bobby Miller (RHP) – Louisville

45. San Diego Padres
Alex Santos (RHP) – Mount St. Michael Academy (Bronx, N.Y.)
Pitching is, if nothing else, the most valuable currency in baseball for a small-market team like San Diego, so A.J. Preller goes with a talented prep arm with his third pick in the top-45. Alex Santos is a projectable strike-throwing right-hander, standing in at a healthy six-foot-three, 215-pounds. He has two plus secondary offerings that project well, but the fastball velocity is in question due to lack of scouting chances.
Previous Selections: (8) Garrett Mitchell (OF) – UCLA, (34) Carson Montgomery (RHP) – Windermere H.S. (FLA)

46. Colorado Rockies
Victor Mederos (RHP) – Westminster Christian Academy (FL)
The Rockies are heading for another full-blown rebuild. Nolan Arenado wants out, Trevor Story won’t be far behind, and the Rockies will return their seemingly perpetual rebuilding stage. Which is why they’re loading up on high-ceiling prep talent from recruiting hotbeds like Florida and California. This time around, they add another arm in Victor Mederos, a two-time Under Armour All-American.
Previous Selections: (9) Zac Veen (OF) – Spruce Creek H.S. (FL), (35) Jared Jones (RHP) – La Mirada H.S. (CA)

47. Chicago White Sox
Jared Shuster (LHP) – Wake Forest
After taking a high-upside prep star with their first-rounder, the White Sox address their weakest link, left-handed pitching by taking Wake Forest southpaw, Jared Shuster.
Shuster came out this spring hitting 96-97 with his fastball from the left side to go along with a strong changeup and developing slider. At 6-3, 210 pounds, Shuster has excellent starter traits, and had it not been for the COVID-19 pandemic ending his season early, he would have possibly shot into the first round.
Previous Selections: (11) Ed Howard (SS) – Mount Carmel H.S. (IL)

48. Cincinnati Reds
Cole Henry (RHP) – LSU
Henry is a big right-hander (6-4, 211 LBS) that can run his fastball up to 97 mph, and plus tools across the board. He has a two-seamer, and a curveball/changeup combo to boot. Signability might be a concern as a draft-eligible sophomore, but he’s a day-one talent on day two for Cincinnati if they can get him on board.
Previous Selections: (12) Heston Kjerstad (OF) – Arkansas

49. San Francisco Giants
Jeff Criswell (RHP) – Michigan
The San Francisco farm is pitching starved, so we’re staying there in Round 2. Criswell is a six-foot-four right-hander with a mid-upper-90s fastball. He has some reliever risk, but the Giants need arms in a big way, and Baseball America believes that Criswell would be a day-one talent in a normal draft, so there’s some value here for San Francisco at No. 48.
Previous Selections: (13) Garrett Crochet (LHP) – Tennessee

50. Texas Rangers
Isaiah Greene (OF) – Corona H.S. (CA)
After taking a prep arm in Round 1, Texas takes west-coast prep star Isaiah Greene in Round 2. Greene is a plus runner but his arm is a question mark, making him a move to left-field a possiblity. Greene has a smooth left-handed stroke with developing power and a solid hit tool.
Previous Selections: (14) Mick Abel (RHP) – Jesuit H.S. (OR)

51. Chicago Cubs
Daxton Fulton (LHP) – Mustang H.S. (TX)
The Cubs stick to the pitching-heavy plan in round two, nabbing another high-profile prep arm that could very well front the rotation in the near-future. At 6’6″, 225 lbs., Fulton has a classic physical build that scouts find easy to project. His fastball sits in the low 90’s, with developed secondary offerings that make him a high-ceiling arm.
If not for Tommy John surgery Fulton would likely be a first round pick, perhaps even in the top ten. The success rate of TJ, however, coupled with Fulton’s projection, makes him a worthwhile gamble — further cementing the Cubs plans of taking high-ceiling SP’s at as minimal a risk as possible.
Previous Selections: (16) Cade Cavalli (RHP) – Oklahoma
52. New York Mets
Logan Allen (LHP) – Florida International
The Mets go with a college arm in Round 2 to compliment their pick of prep outfielder Robert Hassell in the opening round. Allen is a polished strike-thrower, evident by his 246-47 strikeout to walk ratio during his 183.2 innings of work at FIU. He works with an average fastball in terms of velo (90-91), but uses deception and accuracy to dominate hitters.
Previous Selections: (19) Robert Hassell (OF) – Independence H.S. (TN)

53. Milwaukee Brewers
Gage Workman (3B) – Arizona State
With no prospects in MLB Pipeline’s Top-100, Milwaukee could go in plenty of directions here. After a huge run on pitching this round, Milwaukee snags Baseball America’s No. 50 prospect, third-baseman Gage Workman at No. 53.
Previous Selections: (20) Tyler Soderstrom (C) – Turlock H.S. (GA)

54. St. Louis Cardinals
Dylan Crews (OF) – Lake Mary H.S. (FL)
Power to all fields, plus bat speed, and an above-average arm for prep prospect Dylan Crews makes him an enticing corner-outfield prospect for St. Louis.
Previous Selections: (21) Nick Bitsko (RHP) – Central Bucks East H.S. (PA)

55. Washington Nationals
Kevin Parada (C) – Loyola H.S. (CA)
If there’s one thing the Nationals have an abundance of at almost every level, it’s pitching, and they added another solid arm to the mix in Round 1 with the Carmen Mlodzinski pick. Washington turns their attention to the position players, and gets solid value here with prep catcher Kevin Parada at No. 55.
Previous Selections: (22) Carmen Mlodzinski (RHP) – South Carolina

56. Cleveland Indians
Nick Garcia (RHP) – Chapman H.S. (CA)
Having already added two college bats to the system in Round 1, Cleveland goes with Nick Garcia, a right-hander out of Chapman H.S. in California.
Previous Selections: (23) Daniel Cabrera (OF) – LSU, (36) Nick Loftin (SS) – Baylor

57. Tampa Bay Rays
Enrique Bradfield (OF) – American Heritage H.S. (FL)
Tampa Bay continues to add bats to the system, this time at the prep level with their selection of Enrique Bradfield. Bradfield has 80-grade speed with sub 6.3 60-yard dash times, and shows elite route running ability almost always. Bradfield will be their center-fielder of the future if the bat can follow the big time defense and speed skills.
Previous Selections: (24) Austin Wells (C) – Arizona, (37) Aaron Sabato (1B) – North Carolina

58. Oakland Athletics
Chase Davis (OF) – Franklin H.S. (CA)
Oakland only has one outfielder in their top-10 (Luis Barrera, No. 10), so we’re taking a prep outfielder here in Chase Davis. The Arizona commit has raw power and a big arm to match it. He’s got good tools all-around, and can become an everage defender at a corner with some nice power at the dish.
Previous Selections: (26) Tanner Burns (RHP) – Auburn

59. Minnesota Twins
Christian Roa (RHP) – Texas A&M
The Twins reach a bit for Roa here, but he’s a solid strike-thrower with a great four-pitch mix, and a solid college pedigree.
Previous Selections: (27) Slade Cecconi (RHP) – Miami

60. Los Angeles Dodgers
Colt Keith (SS) – Biloxi H.S. (MS)
The Dodgers insulate their farm a bit here by taking a prep middle-infielder. Keith has a bunch of impressive tools, a strong arm and was named the 2018-19 Gatorade Mississippi Player of the Year. Keith is a high-ceiling project, but for a club that has time for projects on the farm, it’s a good pick here to close the second round.
Previous Selections: (29) Dillon Dingler (C) – Ohio State
Competitive Balance Round B

61. Miami Marlins
Alejandro Rosario (RHP) – Miami Christian H.S. (FL)
The Marlins add a local prep arm, Alejandro Rosario out of Miami Christian High School with their final pick of the second round.
Previous Selections: (3) Asa Lacy (LHP) – Texas A&M, (40) Drew Romo (C) – The Woodlands H.S. (TX)

62. Detroit Tigers
Hunter Barnhart (RHP) – St. Joseph H.S. (CA)
The Detroit Tigers go best available here, and add a prep arm in Hunter Barnhart to their farm.
Previous Selections: (1) Spencer Torkelson (1B) – Arizona State, (38) Alika Williams (SS) – Arizona State

63. St. Louis Cardinals (via TB)
Justin Lange (RHP) – Llano H.S. (TX)
St. Louis adds another prep arm here, taking a big (6-4) righty with a big fastball, Justin Lange, at No. 63.
Previous Selections: (21) Nick Bitsko (RHP) – Central Bucks East H.S. (PA), (54) Dylan Crews (OF) – Lake Mary H.S. (FL)

64. Seattle Mariners (via MIL)
Kyle Nicolas (RHP) – Ball State
Seattle adds another college arm to a system that’s pretty thin on the mound. Nicolas has premium stuff, most notably a 97-mph fastball, and a plus slider offering.
Previous Selections: (6) Nick Gonzales (2B) New Mexico State, (43) Bryce Jarvis (RHP) – Duke

65. Cincinnati Reds
Jake Eder (LHP) – Vanderbilt
The Reds — a team that can conceivably compete for the N.L. Central for the next few years — continue to add college players with proven pedigree, this time with Vandy southpaw Jake Eder.
Previous Selections: (12) Heston Kjerstad (OF) – Arkansas, (48) Cole Henry (RHP) – LSU

66. Los Angeles Dodgers (via MIN)
Ty Floyd (RHP) – Rockmart H.S. (GA)
The Dodgers continue to insulate the back-end of their farm with another prep pick, this time it’s Georgia native, Ty Floyd.
Previous Selections: (29) Dillon Dingler (C) – Ohio State, (60) Colt Keith (SS) – Biloxi H.S. (MS)
Compensation Picks

67. San Francisco Giants
Cade Horton (SS/RHP) – Norman H.S. (OK)
With two college arms added to the mix already, the Giants take two-way prep prospect, Cade Horton at No. 67.
Previous Selections: (13) Garrett Crochet (LHP) – Tennessee, (49) Jeff Criswell (RHP) – Michigan

68. San Francisco Giants
Kyle Harrison (LHP) – De La Salle H.S. (CA)
Following the trend here for San Francisco? They desperately needed an infusion of arms to their system, and they got it. Polished prep prospect Kyle Harrison joins the glut of pitching prospects for the Giants thus far.
Previous Selections: (13) Garrett Crochet (LHP) – Tennessee, (49) Jeff Criswell (RHP) – Michigan, (67) Cade Horton (SS/RHP) – Norman H.S. (OK)
69. New York Mets
David Calabrese (OF) – St. Elizabeth Catholic (Canada)
David Calabrese joins fellow prep outfielder Robert Hassell in the Mets organization at No. 69.
Previous Selections: (19) Robert Hassell (OF) – Independence H.S. (TN), (52) Logan Allen (LHP) – FIU

70. St. Louis Cardinals
Drew Bowser (SS) – Harvard-Westlake H.S. (CA)
St. Louis adds a shortstop to the mix with their final pick of the second round, taking Harvard-Westlake standout, Drew Bowser.
Previous Selections: (21) Nick Bitsko (RHP) – Central Bucks East H.S. (PA), (63) Justin Lange – Llano H.S. (TX)

71. Washington Nationals
Freddy Zamora (SS) – Miami
After adding Kevin Parada earlier in the round, the Nationals stay position player oriented in Round 2, this time going with Miami shortstop, Freddy Zamora.
Previous Selections: (22) Carmen Mlodzinski (RHP) – South Carolina, (55) Kevin Parada (C) – Loyola H.S. (CA)

72. Houston Astros
Burl Carraway (LHP) – Dallas Baptist
With Gerrit Cole out the door, and the duo of Justin Verlander/Zack Greinke not getting any younger, the Astros use their first pick on a college lefty to close out the second round of the draft.
Previous Selections: NONE
